Three crucial train lines into Sydney’s CBD have been either delayed or brought to a complete halt on Tuesday morning, threatening to cause chaos for commuters.

The Central Coast and Newcastle Line, T1 North Shore and Western Line, and T9 Central via Strathfield lines have been facing significant delays and cancellations as urgent repairs take place at Chatswood Station.

A Transport for NSW spokesman said a wire fell between Chatswood and Artarmon stations after the weight system that keeps tension on the overhead wire failed.

Crews are on site but there is no clear time frame for the repairs.

“The T1 North Shore line will be heavily impacted for this morning’s peak, with replacement buses operating between Gordon and Chatswood in both directions,” the spokesman said.

The T9 line will have trains departing every 5 minutes from Hornsby to the City via Strathfield, and commuters on their way to the North Shore via the T9 have been told to change at Epping and use the Metro.

The T1 Western Line and Intercity Services from Richmond to North Sydney will operate at a reduced frequency.

The repairs are expected to still be ongoing throughout the morning peak.
