Underage drinking in Sydney’s Macarthur region has come into the spotlight after three teenage rugby league players accused of gang raping a teenage girl were allegedly at a local pub beforehand.
On August 16, three 17-year-old boys were arrested by police for allegedly sexually assaulting a teenage girl at a home in the Macarthur region the day before.
Two of the boys attend St Gregory’s College and the other is a student at Elderslie High School.
Since the alleged gang rape, police have begun investigating reports of underage drinking at a licensed venue.
“Officers attached to Camden Police Area Command are making inquiries after reports of underage drinking within the Camden area. As inquiries continue, police aren’t able to provide details on the investigation,” police said.
“Police continue to have a zero-tolerance approach to licensees supplying alcohol to juveniles and will target those licence holders who do break the rules.
“Camden police run regular compliance operations and engage with community and industry stakeholders including the Camden Liquor Accord to target underage drinking and licence breaches across the command.”
One of the teenagers was charged with 11 offences, including six charges of sexual assault in company with others, three counts of sexual intercourse without consent, sexually touching another person without consent and carrying out a sexual act with another person without consent.
The second teenager received eight charges, including six counts of sexually assaulting in company with others, common assault, and sexual intercourse without consent.
The final teen was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault in company with others.
All three were refused bail.
