Socceroos midfielder Paul Okon-Engstler has made his debut for German outfit FC Koln following his move from Sydney FC.

Okon-Engstler, 21, was an 89th-minute substitute in his top-flight team’s 2-1 German Cup first-round away win over third division club Wurzburger Kickers on Tuesday morning (AEST).

Isak Johannesson scored a brace for Koln to seal the win after Wurzburger had gone ahead in the first-half through David Abrangao.

Koln’s Bundesliga campaign starts on Saturday night (AEST) with a home game against Hoffenheim.

Elsewhere in Europe, Okon-Engstler’s Socceroos teammate, veteran goalkeeper Mat Ryan, pulled off a string of saves to ensure his Spanish La Liga club Levante secured a 0-0 away draw with Osasuna.

It was Levante’s first point of the season after last week’s 3-0 away loss to Espanyol.

Meanwhile, Marcus Younis continued his push for a Socceroos debut in next month’s two-game series against Brazil by setting up a goal in his Danish club Brondby’s 3-1 Superliga home win over Silkeborg.

Teenager Oskar Fenger was the beneficiary when he netted from close range following a dangerous Younis cross.

Younis starred for Melbourne City in the A-League last season during a loan spell.

On his return to Brondby, the 21-year-od attacking weapon has maintained his form, with his performances including a goal earlier this month in a 2-0 win over Horsens.

Brondby top the Superliga table with 13 points from five matches.
