Detectives have found a body in the search for a father allegedly shot over a debt in Melbourne’s northwest last week.
Police announced on Wednesday they had found a body, which is yet to be formally identified, as part of the investigation into the missing 37-year-old Khaled Malas.
Mr Malas was allegedly shot by Mohammed Aboueid, 56, at semirural Wildwood on August 19.
He has not been seen since.
On Wednesday, Victorian Police confirmed they had found a body about 15km from Wildwood.
“The yet-to-be-formally identified remains were found around 3pm covered in grass on Havelock Road in Clarkefield,” a police spokesperson said.
“The coroner has been advised and a post-mortem will occur in due course.”
Mr Aboueid has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury but police said the charges will be assessed after a post-mortem is performed.
“Police believe the parties involved were known to each other,” the spokesperson said.
Police initially appealed for any information on the movements of a black Mitsubishi Triton seen around Greenvale, Sunbury, Bulla, Oaklands Junction, or Wildwood on the night of August 19 into the early morning of August 20.
Mr Malas has three children, and the Herald Sun reports he went from his home in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, to Wildwood in the northwest, with two associates because of a debt.
It is believed Mr Malas was allegedly shot in the torso. His clothes were found burnt on the side of a road outside Wildwood the next morning.
