A $10 million redevelopment of Carramar Golf Course is moving forward, with early works now started at the site and a builder appointed to carry out the major works.
Yanchep-based Hickey Constructions has been awarded the contract by the City of Wanneroo to deliver the project.
The golf course will gain a new 33-bay undercover floodlit driving range, featuring an automated ball distribution and collection system, as well as a refurbished clubhouse.
The clubhouse will also feature a commercial kitchen, lounge, simulator and tuition room, along with an outdoor deck overlooking the 18th green.
The works will also include enhanced changerooms and a new electric cart storage facility.
Wanneroo mayor Linda Aitken said it was pleasing to see a local company selected to deliver such a significant project.
“This appointment highlights the strength and capability of our local business sector while ensuring this exciting project is delivered by a company that understands our community,” Ms Aitken said.
Construction has already begun on a new cart shed, while temporary facilities have been installed for the pro shop and hospitality operations.
Belgravia Leisure manages the course on behalf of the city.
Douglas Bailey, the company’s business operations manager, also welcomed the builder’s selection.
“The appointment of such a highly reputable and local builder in Hickey Constructions mirrors our commitment to community engagement throughout the project,” Mr Bailey said.
“We look forward to working closely with Hickey Constructions over the coming months to provide a facility worthy of the local golfing community and beyond.”
The works at Carramar form part of the City of Wanneroo’s wider upgrades to its golf courses, with Marangaroo Golf Course also set to undergo a $16 million redevelopment.
Marangaroo will get a new clubhouse with an integrated pro shop and changerooms, plus a double-storey 44-bay undercover driving range with smart golf technology.
The upgrades are aimed at improving the experience for existing golfers and making the course more appealing to a new generation of players through the introduction of modern technology.
The driving range at Marangaroo is currently closed, except on Sundays, and is expected to remain unavailable for four to five weeks while the early stages of the redevelopment take place.
The tender for this redevelopment is expected to be announced in the coming weeks, with main construction expected to begin later this year.
