A 40-year-old woman has been arrested by Gujarat’s police for kidnapping a four-year-old boy from the bus station area in Surendranagar district with the intention of forcing him to beg at traffic signals. The child was safely rescued.
The kidnapping took place on Wednesday when the child, belonging to a labourer’s family living on the pavement near Patdi bus station, was allegedly taken away by the woman. A complaint was subsequently registered with Patdi police.

Police examined CCTV footage from the area and spotted a woman holding the hand of the kidnapped child. Patdi police then circulated the child’s details and CCTV footage through an emergency broadcast message to the Ahmedabad city control room and police stations.
Based on the alert, Sola police received information about a suspicious woman accompanied by a child matching the victim’s description near the road leading towards Prasang Party Plot crossroads.
Sola police inspector KN Bhukan said officers immediately detained the woman and verified the child’s identity before safely rescuing him.
The accused has been identified as Reema alias Ramila alias Tini, a native of Bhiloda in Aravalli district. She allegedly lives with her husband on a pavement beneath a flyover opposite Sola Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad and earns a living through begging and collecting plastic waste.
During questioning, the woman allegedly confessed that she had kidnapped the child from Patdi with the intention of making him beg at traffic signals.
Sola police are handing over the child and the accused to Patdi police for the child’s reunion with his parents and further investigation and legal action against the woman.
