A popular club in Bengaluru has had its kitchen shut after a food safety inspection found unhygienic conditions and led to the seizure of 40 kg of expired chillies and other food items, officials said on Friday.
The inspection at the Chairman’s Club was carried out on Thursday by the Food Safety wing of the Department of Food Safety and Drug Administration on the direction of Health Minister UT Khader.

Inspectors found 40 kg of expired chillies stored for use in food preparation, the department said.
They also detected improper labelling on 5 kg of breadcrumbs and 2 kg of Sajeera food products, which officials said was in violation of FSSAI rules.
The food preparation and storage areas were found to be highly unhygienic, according to the department.
Inspectors also detected the use or storage of unauthorised or prohibited artificial colours in food products.
The club had also failed to follow prescribed food safety measures for the storage and handling of food items, officials said.
Vegetarian and non-vegetarian products were allegedly being stored together.
“During the inspection, the kitchen was found to be maintained under unhygienic conditions. Expired food products were found and seized. In view of the serious deficiencies relating to food safety and hygiene, the club kitchen was closed,” Srinivas K, Commissioner, Food Safety and Drug Administration Department, said in a statement.
The Department of Food Safety and Drug Administration said inspections would continue across the city and stringent legal action would be taken against food businesses found violating prescribed food safety and hygiene standards.
