Andrew Garfield thinks Jesse Eisenberg has “one of the most brilliant minds” in Hollywood.
The 43-year-old actor starred alongside Jesse, 42, in The Social Network, the 2010 movie about the genesis of Facebook and Andrew feels Jesse was “quintessentially perfect” for the role of Mark Zuckerberg.
Asked about Jesse rejecting the chance to reprise the role in The Social Reckoning, Andrew told The Hollywood Reporter: “Surprised, not surprised — I don’t know.
“He was so quintessentially perfect in that character and in that film. I don’t know the interior workings of his mind as much as I would like to because it’s one of the most brilliant minds I’ve ever come across.
“So I don’t really have an opinion on it particularly, but I love Jeremy Strong, Aaron Sorkin and the whole cast [of The Social Reckoning]. Aaron is one of our great writers, so I’m really excited to see it.”
Andrew – who played the titular character in the Spider-Man movies between 2012 and 2014 – is also excited to see two of the biggest films of 2026 so far.
Asked if he’s excited to watch Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Andrew replied: “I haven’t seen it yet. I’ve been a bit off the grid, but thank God it’s still in theatres, so I’m going to try and see it.
“I haven’t seen The Odyssey yet either. I’m the only person alive who hasn’t seen these movies, but I hear that they’re both phenomenal. So I’m very, very excited to go and support my friends. The movies are back, baby.”
Meanwhile, Andrew recently revealed that he’s looking forward to some well-earned time off.
The actor explained that he’s planning to play basketball and go swimming in the next few months.
The Hollywood star told Esquire UK: “I’m going to play basketball, and I’m going to go swimming, and I’m going to be. Just be. And I’m going to remember that I don’t always have to be ‘on’, performing. And I’m going to think about how to live.
“That’s the thread now; that feels like the narrative. How do we not only survive in this very polarised, financially differentiated, resource-scarce time, when an empire is at its hilt, maybe pre-falling? How do we free ourselves from the shackles?”
Andrew also explained how his real-life attitude related to The Uprising, his latest film project.
He said: “That’s what The Uprising’s about. How do we free ourselves from an oppressive society and a set of systems and structures that doesn’t want us free?
“So, yeah. I’ll have a swim, and I’ll think about that. That sounds like heaven to me. And then I’ll take action.”
