In Jeddah, the Consulate General of India on Monday assured its “full support and assistance” to Indian nationals who are being treated at a hospital in the coastal city after suffering injuries in the recent incidents in Jazan.
In Washington, intelligence documents released by the CIA revealed that the Taliban regime in Afghanistan had warned Al Qaeda terrorist Osama bin Laden to step up his security after the hijack of an Indian Airlines flight to Kandahar in late 1999.
In the US, Union Minister of Power and Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal arrived in Houston on Sunday to represent India at the G20 Energy Ministers’ meeting. The meeting is being held at a time when crude supplies across the world are under considerable strain due to the wars in Iran and Ukraine. As indicated in the official update, he also lauded the Indian diaspora and Hindi heritage.
In London, thousands gathered on the banks of the River Thames on Sunday for the first-ever Ganga aarti in the UK. The ceremony was described as an event of light and thanksgiving.
In Kathmandu, Nepal sought China’s assistance to rebuild the Syaphrubesi-Rasuwagadhi road, a key trade route with its northern neighbour. The road was severely damaged in last month’s flash floods.
In Dubai, reports said Yemen’s Houthi rebels had seized the strategic islands of Greater and Lesser Hanish in the southern Red Sea, strengthening the Iranian-backed group’s ability to control a key maritime shipping route.
