Fugitive gangster Himanshu Bhau, believed to be operating from abroad, has claimed responsibility for the murder of a man in South Delhi’s Aya Nagar, where a volley of bullets was fired at the victim on Monday.

The claim surfaced through a social media post attributed to Bhau shortly after the shooting. In the post, the gangster took responsibility for the killing of a man identified as Vijay and issued an apparent threat to rivals.

“Today, the murder of Vijay in Aya Nagar, Delhi, was carried out by us. Running away will not help. Come to the field. I won’t let anyone escape,” the post said. It was signed “Bhau Gang” and carried the tag “Since 2020”.

The killing is the second murder allegedly linked to the Himanshu Bhau gang in Delhi within a month. Earlier this month, a property dealer was shot dead in Narela in a brazen attack that police suspect was orchestrated by the same gang.

According to investigators, Vijay was killed after assailants opened fire in Aya Nagar, with around 10 to 12 rounds reportedly being fired during the attack. The Bhau gang has gained notoriety for carrying out shootings with a large number of rounds, often unleashing 15 to 20 bullets at targets in operations spanning Delhi and neighbouring Haryana.

Himanshu Bhau, one of the most wanted gangsters from Haryana, has previously been reported to be operating from the United States and later from Portugal. Despite being based overseas, authorities believe he continues to run his criminal network and direct attacks in India through associates.

The latest claim comes days after Delhi Police apprehended two alleged shooters linked to the Himanshu Bhau gang following an exchange of fire in Rohini. A juvenile accomplice was also detained.

Police suspect the trio was involved in the murder of property dealer Pramod Dahiya, who was gunned down outside a gym in Narela’s Bankner village on September 3. Dahiya was attacked at around 7 am while on his way to a fitness centre. Investigators said three motorcycle-borne assailants fired multiple rounds at him, killing him on the spot.

Police are verifying the authenticity of the social media post and investigating the Aya Nagar murder from all angles, including possible links to ongoing gang rivalries.
