At least five fire crews were called to a fire raging at a mining equipment manufacturing warehouse in Perth’s east.
Emergency services were alerted to the blaze at Austin Engineering on Chisolm Crescent in Kewdale just after 8pm Wednesday.
Police blocked off traffic as heavy smoke polluted the surrounding neighbourhood.
The blaze was extinguished within the hour, but the threat of smoke remains. Additional police units were called in to manage traffic around the smoke hazard.
Only 10 minutes away on Peachey Avenue in Kewdale, another fire emergency unfolded at about the same time.
A man and woman were cooking chops on their grill when flames burst upwards and set their kitchen ablaze.
The man initially threw flour on the fire before trying to put it out with sand. He feared the fire had spread beyond what he could manage so called for help.
Both residents evacuated the home safely and the fire was extinguished.
