Michael B. Jordan is planning to take most of 2027 off.

The 39-year-old star has been hard at work on several projects of late, including a reimagining of The Thomas Crown Affair and a Miami Vice movie adaptation, but intends to slow down once the former is released next spring.

In an interview with Vogue, Michael said: “I’ll probably take the rest of next year off.

“That’s probably when I’m going to do more reflecting and processing of all of this. Because honestly, it’s been – I’ve been moving.”

Michael won the Academy Award for Best Actor earlier this year for his dual portrayal of Smoke and Stack in Sinners but explained that he got sick the following day as his body cried enough following a gruelling awards season.

The Creed star recalled: “Like, you reached the finish line, and your body said, ‘Alright, I got you here, time to shut down for a second.'”

Jordan lamented how the illness – in which he spent four days recovering from on an intravenous drip – prevented him from celebrating his Oscar win with friends who were visiting from New Jersey.

He recalled: “They’re ordering food, talking, laughing about the night, telling stories, just reliving it all.”

Michael also explained that he wants to be considered “amongst the greats” of the acting world.

Asked if he would have settled for being a working character actor, the Black Panther star said: “I don’t know. My competitiveness – I don’t know.

“I don’t think so. Whatever I wanted to do in life, I wanted to be competitive at, and I wanted to be mentioned amongst the greats.”

Jordan is directing and starring in the new take on the heist movie The Thomas Crown Affair and claimed that his version of the titular thief will differ from the two previous versions of the film – which starred Steve McQueen and Pierce Brosnan in 1968 and 1999 respectively.

He said: “I don’t think a billionaire, or a millionaire, just doing s*** for fun, right now, is something that people want to see.”

Meanwhile, Michael is a big fan of anime and “half joked” about turning his back on movie stardom to focus on the Japanese medium.

He quipped: “I might just quit it all and make anime the rest of my life.”
