A DJ and music producer has suddenly cancelled his Australian tour two days out due to ongoing mental health struggles and worsening panic attacks.
Petit Biscuit, a French DJ known for his breakout electronic hit Sunset Lover, took to Instagram on Wednesday to say he won’t be able to embark on the tour, which would have kicked off in Brisbane on Friday.
He would have then stopped off in Byron Bay, Melbourne, the Gold Coast, Hunter Valley, Sydney, Wollongong and wrapped up in Perth at The Court on September 27.
“The next few words are tough to write, but they need to be said: I won’t be able to go ahead with my tour in Australia and Indonesia,” he wrote in a post.
“I want to start apologising to everyone who’s already bought their ticket, to those who were looking forward to coming out to see my set and to the local partners who worked to make this happen.
“I’ve kept this to myself for a while out of privacy, but I owe you honestly.
“My mental health has been declining over the past few years.
“The highs are harder to enjoy, and the lows have become increasingly difficult to manage.
“I know how lucky I am to live off my music, and I don’t take that for granted, but the panic attacks haven’t stopped. If anything, they’ve gotten worse. My body feels constantly on edge in a way I never expected to feel.
“After talking it through with the people around me, I’ve come to realise I need to listen to what my mind and body are telling me.
“As much as I was looking forward to being back in Australia, long-haul touring isn’t something I can take on right now.
“Thank you for understanding and for sticking with me through this.”
The 26-year-old, whose real name is Mehdi Benjelloun, uploaded his breakout hit to SoundCloud in 2015 when he was just a teenager.
Known for his signature style of combining acoustic instruments with electronic production and has played major festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza.
On Thursday, he took to Instagram again, this time to thank his fans for their overwhelming support.
“Thank you all for your support, I’m trying to take the time but I struggle to reply to everyone individually,” he wrote.
“I read every message I receive and it warms my heart so much. There’s nothing more comforting than having people around you, a family, friends and a caring, supportive community. Take care.”
