The mother of a newborn boy found dead in a rubbish bin outside a unit complex in Sydney’s western suburbs is expected to be charged on Thursday, almost three weeks after giving birth.
The baby was found naked inside what resembled a bin bag outside the Auburn apartment complex on August 31. Detective acting Superintendent Darren Sly said at the time that the newborn may have been in the bin for up to 36 hours.
The 24-year-old, found by police on Thursday after an exhaustive investigation, was taken to hospital before she was transported to Auburn Police Station. She was arrested about 6.30pm on Thursday, after answering questions from detectives.
The woman is expected to be charged on Thursday night, a police source said. She is set to be charged with concealing the birth of a child, which carries a maximum penalty of two years’ imprisonment.
