A series of road accidents in Bengaluru on Thursday night led to the discovery of the kidnapping and murder of a 13-year-old boy.

The accused, identified as Bhaskar Reddy, rammed his car into several vehicles before crashing into a wall and coming to a stop. The accident took place on the Ballari Road service road near Yelahanka.

Other commuters stopped and confronted Reddy over his reckless driving. When police reached the spot, he allegedly gave contradictory answers and struggled to explain what had happened.

Suspecting that something was wrong, police searched the car. They then found the body of 13-year-old Prajwal, a resident of Vinayaka Nagar and Reddy’s neighbour, in the boot.

According to police, Reddy confessed to kidnapping Prajwal and demanding ransom from his parents.

Police said Reddy had lured the boy into his car on the pretext of buying firecrackers. He then demanded money from Prajwal’s parents.

When Prajwal resisted and tried to escape, Reddy hit him on the head with a cement brick, killing him, police said.

After the murder, Reddy placed the boy’s body in the boot and planned to drive towards Andhra Pradesh to dispose of it.

However, the journey was cut short after the car was involved in a series of accidents on the way. The crashes forced Reddy to stop, eventually leading to his apprehension and the discovery of Prajwal’s body.

Police have arrested Reddy and are questioning him to establish the exact motive behind the kidnapping and murder and determine whether anyone else was involved.
