A case involving a driver allegedly giving medicines to patients from a doctor’s OPD cabin at Kanpur’s Kashiram Hospital has triggered a probe by the hospital administration and police.
The matter came to light after a report highlighted that Dev Pratap, the driver of doctor Ramkesh, had allegedly sat in the doctor’s cabin and given medicines to patients in his absence.

Following the report, hospital Chief Medical Superintendent Dr Piyush Mishra lodged a complaint against Dev Pratap at Chakeri police station. A three-member committee has also been formed to investigate the incident.
The committee has been asked to examine CCTV footage from the doctor’s cabin and surrounding areas. Hospital authorities are also looking into whether the driver had previously given medicines to patients when the doctor was not present.
POLICE BEGIN QUESTIONING
Police have now begun questioning Dr Ramkesh as part of the investigation. Officers asked him how his driver could prescribe or provide medicines from the government hospital in his absence, where he was at the time and when he first became aware of the incident.
Speaking to reporters, Ramkesh initially avoided commenting but later said he was not aware of the incident. He said he did not know which medicines the driver had given and claimed that the driver had never provided medicines to patients before.
However, CMS Piyush Mishra had earlier said he had received information that the driver may have given medicines to patients on previous occasions as well. He said such an incident could not have occurred without serious negligence and that the possibility of the doctor’s knowledge was also being examined.
Mishra said the matter had been reported to the state government. The Additional Director General of Health has also sought details of the incident.
ACP Chakeri Ashutosh Singh confirmed that a case had been registered against Dev Pratap and said the police were investigating all aspects of the matter.
