Experienced defender Jason Geria has urged the Socceroos to make the most of their “amazing” opportunity to play against five-time world champions Brazil on Queensland soil.
Australia’s preparations for next year’s AFC Asian Cup are set to set up a notch with games against the Brazilians on Friday night in Townsville and on Tuesday week in Brisbane.
“It doesn’t get any bigger than Brazil,” Geria said on Monday after arriving in Socceroos camp.
“So many legends have come from Brazil, and so many world-class players play for this team now.
“It’s amazing that we’re able to have this opportunity. We’re able to have two games, let alone one, against this team.”
Coached by master Italian mentor Carlo Ancelotti, Brazil’s squad includes Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior, Arsenal pair Bruno Guimaraes and Gabriel Magalhaes, and Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos.
“It’s going to be amazing for us, a really good test for us, and we’re looking to play well and improve, and hopefully put on a good show for the public,” Geria said.
The Australians also play away games against Jordan and Qatar in November ahead of the start of the Asian Cup in January in Saudi Arabia, where Geria admits “expectations” of the Socceroos will be high.
Japan-based Geria, 33, was part of the Socceroos squad that reached the round-of-32 at this year’s FIFA World Cup.
“We all have a taste of what it feels like to be in these high pressure situations and to be playing for something so big,” he said.
“Now we want to take another step forward. We’re aiming really high for this Asian Cup.
“The public should have high expectations of us. We have high expectations of ourselves, and we’re using these games (against Brazil) and in the window in November to prepare to go to the Asian Cup and do well.
“We’re looking forward to getting down to work, and improving and trying to be a better version of the Socceroos.”
