Police departments across Australia have told people to avoid calling triple-0 for anything other than emergency situations after pop star Taylor Swift used the emergency digits in a cryptic tease of her upcoming single.
Swift changed her Instagram bio to read “And, baby, that’s sh0w business f0r y0u” on Tuesday in advance of the release of her new single ground zero.
The presence of three zeros has prompted NSW Police to respond with a plea to Swift fans – many of whom are known to forensically examine the star’s social media pages – not to read too deeply into it.
“Save triple zer0 f0r emergency situati0ns,” a tongue-in-cheek Instagram post from NSW Police reads.
“Our advice is always that triple-0 is for emergencies,” a NSW police spokeswoman said.
Swift is known to leave clues and other Easter eggs behind in her music and on her social media pages, many of which lead to unlisted videos and other exclusive content reserved for only the most obsessive superfans.
NSW Police would not explicitly say whether the post had genuinely prompted a greater volume of non-emergency related calls.
Further south, the Victoria Police “Tay-Tay Taskforce” told NewsWire people shouldn’t “be an Anti-Hero, or you’ll get in Trouble”.
“Swifty Masterminds are reminded that calling triple-0 outside of an emergency makes you Guilty as Sin. So Shake it Off, or you could Ruin the Friendship and end up CANCELLED!”
