Let’s hope this isn’t an omen for the Dockers this weekend.
The ‘Longmuir Coach’ – Freo’s cross-country bus headed by former great Hayden Ballantyne – has suffered some mechanical issues during its trip from Perth to Melbourne.
Bus passengers were stranded for multiple hours near Streaky Bay, west of South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula, as they waited on some roadside assistance.
Ballantyne filmed an Instagram video to update fans on the setback, which will have them arriving in Melbourne later than expected on Wednesday night.
“Our little drama is just about to be fixed,” said Ballantyne, who was the first-ever Docker to hit the scoreboard in a grand final in the club’s sole appearance on the big stage in 2013.
“We’ve got Karl from Streaky Bay Mechanical coming out with the part that we need. He’s bringing out that new line and 20 litres of oil for us.
“We should be back on the road in the next hour or so. Fingers crossed we’ll get the big bad girl back on the road.
“We should be in Melbourne later tonight sometime.”
Here’s hoping that the bus trip will be just like the Dockers’ season – filled with gutsy half-time comebacks and strong finishes for a great result in the end.
