For two years, nobody knew where one of Lady Gaga’s biggest fans had gone — until he resurfaced with a bombshell that stunned the internet.
Kirill is a Belarus national who since 2009 has established his social media page Gaga Daily as the go-to source for the latest news on the 40-year-old pop superstar, real name Stefani Germanotta.
Boasting nearly half a million followers, the account has become central to the Little Monsters fandom — with the singer herself even telling the Rolling Stone that the page is “where I go to see what my fans are saying”.
But when the Oscar winner released her Grammy-nominated seventh album Mayhem back in March 2025, the page remained silent for the first time in 16 years.
After months of speculation and theories about the sudden hiatus, Kirill returned to the Internet on Wednesday to reveal that he had been preoccupied with a different battle — having spent two years locked up inside a Russian prison.
“Sorry about not posting, I was literally in prison,” he revealed in a lengthy post that has since gone viral, earning 3.6 million views.
“In early 2024, I was arrested in my home country for protesting against the Government and I was sentenced to more than two years in prison.
“I’m out now, I am safe and I can’t wait to get back into doing something I love.”
He revealed that two of his friends had helped him keep the page active during his incarceration, and said he was thankful for the slew of concern and touching messages he received from around the globe since vanishing.
“I love this community so much, and I’m incredible touched and grateful for the messages and support you’ve sent my way during this time,” he said.
Various news outlets have identified the fan as Kirill Nguyen, a 32-year-old sentenced to two years in Russian prison in a case allegedly involving “organising group actions that violate public order”.
The charge is often used against participants in the 2020 Belarusian protests, which were launched after a disputed presidential election.
Kirill made sure to jump straight back in to his important work after leaving prison — sharing a range of reaction posts from his first listen to Lady Gaga’s album.
“The day this came out must’ve been the greatest day to be a Gaga fan . . . “ he posted on his account.
“GAG OMG,” a second post read, while he also told his followers: “Please excuse me if I act like it’s my first time experience this because IT IS.”
While he has shared plenty of content about his first time listening to the singer’s latest work, he revealed there was one song that had managed to sneak its way into the Russian penitentiary he was serving time in.
Kirill revealed he had been “living” when he first heard the album’s second single Abracadabra on radio behind bars, but said he made sure to “silently” celebrate considering he was surrounding by criminals and killers.
He even revealed he had tried to watch Joker: Folie a Deux, which Gaga stars in alongside Joaquin Phoenix, from jail — an experience he labelled “the worst of my life”.
“I only got to see half the movie because a guy who was serving 20 years for murder said to ‘turn that s*** off’,” he told his followers.
“I just didn’t feel like arguing with him, so I turned it off — I wish I was joking.”
The internet has been ablaze with reactions to the fan’s wild tale, with many in shock that he was so quick to return to his love for Gaga after spending two years in one of the world’s harshest prisons.
“Missing a Gaga album for protesting the Russian Government is instantly iconic behaviour,” one fan joked.
“Straight from prison back to Twitter is WILD,” another added.
Someone even shared a screenshot revealing Kirill’s story was partly trending on the app — with the screenshot saying “Abracadabra becomes surprise prison hit, fan reveals”.
Wildly, it’s not the first time a notable fan account on X has vanished while the owner went to jail for disobeying a government.
In 2019, a tweet from Taylor Swift fan page LegitTayUpdates quickly gained millions of likes after she revealed her three-month hiatus was due to her incarceration in an Israeli prison for allegedly “refusing to join the IDF”.
