Traffic cameras have captured the shocking moment a full load of timber comes smashing through the front window of a truck on a busy South Australian road.
A flat back truck carrying timber approached a Dry Creek intersection and came to an abrupt halt about 8.30am on Thursday, South Australia Police said.
Seconds later, the incorrectly-secured load came flying forward and crashed through the vehicle’s windscreen.
The planks were then left strewn across the road, the intersection where Grand Junction Rd meets Churchill Rd, north of Adelaide.
Miraculously, the driver of the vehicle escaped injury in the incident, as did other road users.
However, the truckie is now facing a future court date after being reported for an offence under Heavy Vehicle National Law.
Police say the 57-year-old from Craigmore has been reported for a severe risk load restraint breach.
“It will be alleged that the truck was travelling east on Grand Junction Road and had stopped at traffic lights when the load shifted forward,” a SAPol spokesman said.
“Several timber planks penetrated the rear window of the cab, exited through the front windscreen and slid into the intersection, creating a serious hazard for other road users.
“Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.”
The incident led to major traffic disruption while the scene was cleared.
The driver will face court at a later date.
