A second child has died following a horrific alleged stabbing incident in the Blue Mountains.
A woman, 42, and her three young children were all found with stab wounds in a car parked along Waratah Rd, in the suburb of Valley Heights about 12.45pm on Sunday.
One of the children, aged 5, died at the scene.
The two other children – aged three and one – and the 42-year-old woman were all raced to hospital for urgent treatment.
On Thursday, police confirmed that the youngest of the three children had died as a result of their injuries.
The remaining child, aged three, remains in a critical condition.
The woman has been charged with murder and two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent of murder.
She will face an additional charge of murder over the death of the 1-year-old child when she returns to court on November 20.
Several members of the public frantically performed first aid on the family members when they were first discovered, while contacting triple-0.
The tragedy sent shockwaves through the local community, with neighbours describing their horror at what they witnessed on Sunday.
Witness Julie Sukkar told 9News she had seen the commotion as good Samaritans rushed to try to help.
“I don’t have any rationale or reason as to why that was the location (of the alleged stabbing), that will all form part of the investigation,” Acting Deputy Commissioner Peter McKenna said on Monday.
“As I understand, (good Samaritans) went to the trouble of lifesaving techniques with these kids.”
It was the fourth alleged domestic violence murder reported across NSW that weekend, following alleged separate incidents at Bondi Beach, Wagga and Mole River.
