A school in the heart of Fremantle has gone full blown Dockers mad ahead of the Grand Final, going as far as changing its name, school song, and even uniform.
Fremantle College’s enthusiasm for Flagmantle was captured in a perfectly worded satirical statement from the school principal Stan Koios on Thursday.
Addressing viewers in a “breaking news” video shared to the school’s Facebook page, Mr Koios read from a sheet of paper while explaining the reason he “hadn’t been around much the last couple of days.”
“I’m here to set the record straight. The truth is for the last 48 hours I’ve been involved in some very serious negotiations,” he said.
The “negotiations” spanned conference calls and strategy meetings, and involved “lawyers and advisers” plus “several packets of Tim Tams”.
Mr Koios’ fictional proposal came to a head when none other than Premier Roger Cook himself signed off on it.
He announced the deal meant “for one day only”, Fremantle College would become Fremantle Dockers College, its official song would be replaced by “other Fremantle legend” ACDC, and everyone could wear purple.
But it won’t all be in vain, Mr Koios said, getting ahead of accusations he had lost his senses.
“As part of the arrangement we’ve agreed to support one of the Dockers’ major charity partners the Starlight Children’s Foundation,” he said.
The school community is encouraged to wear purple and bring a gold coin donation to support the charity.
