The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) K-West ward has issued a stop-work notice at actor Ajay Devgn’s bungalow in Juhu’s Kapol Co-operative Housing Society over the proposed operation of a salon and spa. The civic body has said that it has not granted permission for the commercial use of the property, which is located in a commercial area.
The notice was issued after the housing society wrote to the BMC regarding the ongoing work at the property. In the notice, civic officials sought relevant documents from the property owners. The Devgn family has sought four weeks’ time to respond.

“The issue is with the Building and Factory Department of K-West ward. Prima facie, no permission was granted for commercial use of the S-10 premises. After receiving Kapol Co-operative Housing Society complaint, BMC sought the relevant documents from the property owners and, as the required permissions were not produced, a stop-work notice was issued,” said local Corporator, Sudha Singh.
Ruchi Kanojiya, chief legal and compliance officer at the Devgn Group, remained unavailable for comment. Sources from the Devgn camp, however, said, “The requisite permissions and approvals from the concerned authorities in relation to the proposed use of the premises have been duly obtained.”
The dispute centres on Devgn’s 7,802 sq ft bungalow at Plot S-10, N S Road No. 11, JVPD Scheme. The housing society’s objection is not to the property being leased out, but to its proposed commercial use. Residents have raised concerns over increased customer movement, parking, security and noise on the narrow internal roads.
