Hyderabad: After a protracted condition, renowned Urdu columnist and writer Mahtab Qadr, whose real name was Syed Sarfaraz Ali, passed away in Hyderabad on Friday, September 25, 2018.
In an Instagram post with information about the funeral services and burial, his brother Suhail Syed revealed his passing.
His funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 26 at 1:15 p.m. at Chanchalguda’s Masjid-e-Meraj, same Central Jail. He may be interred at the Masjid-e-Meraj cemetery’s Sultan Daira grave.
Contribution of Mahtab Qadr to Urdu writing
Mahtab Qadr had worked for several years in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to encourage the Urdu language and literature. He was a foundation editor of an Urdu publication that ran monthly in the city and was involved with artistic events there.
Mahtab Qadr’s media, writing, and literary output have all contributed to the advertising of Urdu in Saudi Arabian artistic circles. He also took part in literary events in Jeddah and various locations.
He co-authored two writing collections, Thodi Si Aawargi and Bichhaon Sehra, which were well-known in Urdu artistic circles. He was recognized as a writer, columnist, and author with an affinity for Urdu in Saudi Arabia through his writing.
Members of Urdu intellectual and literary circles mourned his departure in honor of his factor to the vocabulary and its books.
