A repeat offender who kidnapped passengers on moving trains, demanded ransom from their families and then threw them off the train has been arrested in Bihar’s Buxar, police said.
The accused, identified as Rohit, was arrested in connection with the death of 21-year-old Nitin Kumar, a resident of Vaishali. Police said Rohit kidnapped Nitin while he was travelling home from Hyderabad, demanded Rs 10,000 from his family and later tied his hands and legs before throwing him from the moving train.

Nitin was travelling on the Danapur Special on September 19 when he was targeted by the accused.
KIDNAPPED ON TRAIN, FAMILY ASKED FOR RANSOM
According to the complaint filed by Nitin’s family, he was travelling home when he was abducted by unidentified criminals for money. A case was subsequently registered at Buxar railway police station and an investigation was launched.
Considering the seriousness of the case, a special team was formed under the leadership of Railway DSP Kanchan Kumari.
During the investigation, police traced and arrested Rohit from Varanasi. According to police, the accused confessed during questioning that he had tied Nitin’s hands and legs and thrown him from the moving train, resulting in his death.
POLICE SAY ACCUSED HAD TARGETED TWO MEN IN 2024
The investigation also brought out the accused’s alleged criminal history. Police said Rohit had committed a similar crime in 2024, when he threw two men from Buxar off a moving train.
Both men survived the incident, and Rohit was subsequently convicted and served a sentence before being released from prison.
Railway DSP Kanchan Kumari said the accused used different identities to gain the trust of his targets.
According to the DSP, Rohit would sometimes pose as a police officer, at other times as a GRP or STF personnel, and use these identities to select and trap his victims.
In Nitin’s case, police said the accused tortured him over smoking cigarettes and demanded money from his family. After receiving the money, he tied Nitin up and threw him from the train.
Police said the accused is a habitual offender with previous cases against him. The railway police are now preparing the case for a speedy trial, the DSP said.
