Alexander Ludwig knew The Hunger Games film franchise would become a huge success.
The 34-year-old actor starred alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci, and Donald Sutherland in The Hunger Games, the 2012 dystopian film, and Alexander always thought that the franchise would become a money-spinning success.
The actor – who played the part of Cato in the film – told Variety: “I remember Jen and I riding together in this van, and her being so lovely and me being like, ‘God, she’s only a couple years older than me and she’s already been nominated for an Oscar [for Winter’s Bone]. Like what the hell? Like this is crazy.
“I remember seeing the Cornucopia for the first time and just being in total awe of my life and how lucky I was.”
Alexander thought The Hunger Games “was going to be massive” before the cameras started rolling.
The actor – who stars in season four of The White Lotus, the hit HBO series – said: “That was one of those rare films, not dissimilar from White Lotus, where you knew it was going to be massive before you had even shot a frame. You were famous for just being cast.”
Meanwhile, Alexander has admitted to loving the continuation of The Hunger Games franchise.
The actor is no longer involved with the movies but he remains a fan of the franchise from afar.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: “I’m so happy for everybody, and I’ve learned a lot since I was that young boy in The Hunger Games.
“I’m forever grateful for that movie for so many different reasons. I’m forever grateful to [director] Gary Ross for humanising Cato at the end of that film.
“And I ran into Rachel Zegler [who starred in 2023’s The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes] when we were in Austin, and it’s hysterical — we never met before, and we gave each other a big hug.
“I’m stoked for these people and for the franchise to continue to live on, because I think it’s an amazing one. If they came up and ever needed anything, I would have so much I want to share with them too.”
