Firefighters have worked desperately throughout the early hours of the morning to contain a massive factory fire in Melbourne’s outer north, with police investigators deeming the incident “suspicious”.
Crews from Fire and Rescue Victoria arrived at the scene within six minutes of the call being made just after 3am, where they found the factory “issuing smoke and fire”.
The response was quickly escalated as the flames grew, resulting in the deployment of five firetrucks, two aerial units, one rescue unit and three other units.
“A community advice message was published to alert the community of the fire and the large amount of smoke it was generating,” a spokesman said.
The fire was brought under control by 4.36am, and specialist investigators from Victoria Police are now investigating the cause of the fire, which has been deemed suspicious.
A Victoria Police spokesman said there had been nobody inside the building at the time of the fire, and the investigation remains ongoing.
They have also urged anybody with vision of the incident to contact Crime Stoppers.
Footage from bystanders shows crews rushing to contain the blaze, as tendrils of fame doused in a smoky haze shoot out of the burning building.
