Two men and a 16-year-old boy, one of whom police allege pulled the trigger, have been charged over a home invasion and the shooting murder of an innocent university student in Sydney’s south-west.
Marco Tapia, 23, was shot dead in his bed after a group of assailants stormed the Glen Alpine house in the early hours of September 1. Police have since confirmed the wrong address had been targeted in the alleged botched organised crime killing.
“Officers were told three unknown offenders left the home a short time before police arrival,” NSW Police said.
Two boys, aged 14 and 16, have already been charged and remain before the courts for allegedly staging vehicles and providing the weapon.
About 9am on Tuesday, detectives arrested another 16-year-old boy and two men, aged 22 and 23, in the town of Junee, about 400 kilometres south-west of Sydney in NSW’s Riverina.
“Detectives will allege in court the three males – one allegedly armed with a pistol – entered the home and confronted Mr Tapia, before he was fatally shot,” NSW Police said in a statement on Wednesday.
The trio were taken to Wagga Wagga police station and each charged with murder, two counts of special aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence with a weapon, and possessing an unauthorised prohibited firearm.
All three were refused police bail. The two men will face a bail court on Wednesday and the 16-year-old will appear in a children’s court.
Senior police are also expected to provide an update later on Wednesday morning.
