Will Arnett is “very happy” in his new relationship.
The 56-year-old actor – whose short-lived romance with Carolyn Murphy ended earlier this year – played coy about his personal life but admitted things are going “really well” with his new partner, who People magazine has identified as Mimchik co-founder Emma Marciano.
During this week’s episode of their SmartLess podcast, Jason Bateman asked co-host Will for an “update on your love life and domestic life”, joking they “always” discuss his and fellow presenter Sean Hayes’ personal situations.
Will said: “It’s going really well.”
As his co-hosts urged him to “talk about secrets”, the Arrested Development star added: “Both of you know exactly what’s happening and I’m not gonna walk into your trap.
“I’m very happy, very, very happy. Things are going great.”
Jason and Sean continued to press their friend, with the Ozark actor asking: “In a perfect world, in five years, what does this relationship look like?”
But Will – who has sons Archie, 17, and Abel, 16, with ex-wife Amy Poehler, and six-year-old Denny with former partner Alessandra Brown – insisted he has learned not to plan too far ahead because life never goes as planned.
He said: “Can I be honest with you. If I f****** knew what five years…
“I am now, at 56, I have learned a little bit. In the last two years especially, to let go of whatever ideas of whatever I think it’s gonna go or it’s gonna happen.
“As you know, you get dealt so many f****** curveballs. I’m in a place now where I’m really trying my best to just deal with what’s in front of me.”
The Blades of Glory actor noted he had spent the last few years “trying [his] best” to set a strong foundation for himself.
He said: “I surround myself with great people, I’m in great programs with people, I’ve done some work on myself to try to do it in a way so that whatever does come my way, I handle it hopefully better than I have historically.”
Will previously praised his ex-wife Amy for being such a great parent.
When she appeared on SmartLess, he said: “I have to try really hard, but Amy, you’re really good at this, and you help me do this in concert with you, to remember to listen to what they’re saying and to not try to impose what I think, ‘You need this, you need that.’
“To actually sit and listen to what your kid is trying to say. Encourage them to, as much as they can, to speak. I don’t come by it naturally because that’s not how I was raised.”
He also praised their continuing co-parenting relationship.
He said: “I am really proud of it. Of course, things take a minute because everybody is sort of adjusting to what it is.
“I’m also very proud of, certainly as parents, what we’ve been able to do. That has been really important to both of us. I’m really, really lucky to have her as a partner in this way.
“There aren’t many people I speak to more than I speak to her, which is weird, you know what I mean. But it’s great. I feel really lucky.
“She’s the person that I go like, ‘Hey, I’m thinking about doing this.’ Whether it’s life or work and I really seek her counsel because it’s important to me because I trust her. She’s awesome.”
