4 killed in boiler blast at Andhra pharma facility, CM Naidu condoles deaths

Four people were killed after a water boiler exploded at a private pharma facility in Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati district on Saturday. The explosion occurred at around 8 am and triggered rescue and relief operations.

According to officials, two people died on the spot after the boiler exploded, while two others died while undergoing treatment at a hospital. The treatment of another seriously injured person is ongoing.

The blast occurred at a private industry in the Sri City Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Satyavedu Mandal. Several workers on the night shift were reportedly caught in the explosion, while eyewitness accounts indicated a significant loss of life. Police and emergency personnel reached the spot and launched rescue and relief operations. The exact cause of the explosion is yet to be ascertained.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the blast and loss of lives and enquired with officials about the incident.

CM Chandrababu Naidu expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and instructed officials to stand by the affected families.

A survivor described the moments after the explosion, saying he had asked for idlis and had just started eating when fire erupted from somewhere. He said the fire caught on, his chest started burning, and his throat felt completely burnt, with the burning sensation spreading to his chest. He also showed burns on his legs and other parts of his body.

One of the women affected in the blast, identified as Krishnaveni, said she had come for duty and was sitting in the canteen when she was hit. She said she was having tea or snacks when she was struck and did not know what had happened outside. She said something may have fallen from above while she was standing near the canteen.
