Live: Voting begins for bypolls on 4 Assembly, 1 LS seats in Bengal, Assam and 2 more

Bypolls Live Updates: Voters in one Lok Sabha and five Assembly constituencies across the country are casting their votes today for byelections. In Tamil Nadu, bypolls are being held in the Madurantakam (SC) and Dharapuram (SC) Assembly constituencies. Bypolls on the two reserved seats are being viewed as an early acid test for the Vijay-led TVK, which hinges on outside support for its survival. The DMK and the AIADMK are also among the parties in the fray. Meanwhile, the high-profile Nandigram and Rejinagar Assembly constituencies in West Bengal are going to the polls. Byelection was necessitated in Nandigram after Suvendu Adhikari, who is now the CM of West Bengal, won two seats in the state Assembly polls held earlier this year and chose to vacate this one. In Assam, byelection is being held in the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency, where a triangular contest is expected between the ruling BJP, opposition Congress and the Badruddin Ajmal-led AIUDF. Lastly, the Thattanchavady bypoll in the union territory of Puducherry is being seen as a test of popularity for the four month-old NDA government led by veteran N Rangasamy, whose resignation from this seat necessitated the electoral exercise.
