Reality TV star Brittany Hockley and her professional soccer player husband Ben Siegrist have announced they are pregnant with their first child in a sweet Instagram post on Tuesday.

Hockley, who rose to fame as a finalist on season six of The Bachelor with Pat Cummins, posted a video of the couple with their dog, posing in front of a Sydney harbour sunset.

The caption reads, “Can’t believe we are saying this, but it’s time for the next chapter…Baby squid is on its way!”

Hockley, 38, has been transparent about her fertility struggles, opening up on social media and her podcast Life Uncut.

In April she told Mamamia she assumed pregnancy would “just happen” for her as a health-conscious person, so she had never previously looked into fertility health before struggling to fall pregnant.

“It wasn’t information you thought you needed to access because you just assumed that when the time came, and you wanted to have a baby, you had a baby,” Hockley said.

In July, Hockley told her 300,000 followers that her not having children is “not for lack of trying,” and that her and husband Stiegrist “haven’t been able to fall pregnant.”

The podcast host then appeared on The Morning Show to discuss her brave admission following an overwhelmingly supportive public response.

“I’ve had my own fertility issues over the last few years. We’ve been trying to fall pregnant and it just hasn’t happened,” she explained on the talk show.

“Then I went down the track of making embryos. I’ve done four rounds now of egg retrievals and embryos – and in the first round, we got none.”

Hockley became an advocate for breaking the stigma around fertility discussions and reproductive grief.

“I wanted to share it because women have always felt so much shame around not being able to fall pregnant, like there’s something broken inside of us,” she said.

“I get a bit emotional thinking about it because, if you haven’t lived through it, you don’t understand the disappointment and heartache that comes every single month.”
