Lily Allen is “trying to give up vaping”.

The Smile hitmaker, who previously signed a deal to advertise Vype e-cigarettes back in 2019, has admitted the habit has become a “coping mechanism”, and she’s no longer in a position where she needs to use that “crutch”.

She’s quoted by the Daily Mail newspaper as saying: “I’m actually trying to give up vaping now, annoyingly. It’s just not serving me any more.

“It’s been a coping mechanism and a crutch for me, but I’m feeling in a pretty good place and I think I can get rid of it.”

Last year, Lily opened up about how she turned to vaping while working on her album West End Girl, which was written after the breakdown of her marriage to ex David Harbour at the beginning of 2025.

She told Interview magazine: “I was vaping and smoking cigarettes at the time, so it was a Parliament Light in one hand, a vape in the other, and lots of crying, lots of storytelling.

“I was processing a long relationship, and so things I hadn’t really considered before were coming up and I was like, ‘Do you think that when this was happening.’ “

At the time, Lily joked she doesn’t “do things by halves”, and she didn’t have anything else to use as an escape.

I mean, yeah. I don’t do things by halves, and also, I have nothing else.

She added: “If I didn’t vape, I’d be smoking cigarettes, and that would be disgusting.”

Lily recently insisted the lyrics to her breakup album are a “mixture of fact and fiction”.

When ex David was asked about his own feelings on the album, the Stranger Things star insisted he “respected” his ex-wife for using her experiences to “create art”.

He told Variety: “I do believe that it is the privilege of every artist to use their experience to create art, and so I respect her for doing that.”

Asked about his comments, Lily told The Cut: “I think that was a generous thing for him to say.”

Earlier this month, David won an Emmy for Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his portrayal of Floyd Smernitch in HBO Max’s DTF St. Louis and Lily is pleased the “excellent” actor has been enjoying recognition for his career.

She added: “He’s having a real moment of success as well, right? He’s been nominated for an Emmy, and it’s great.

“We’re all doing our own thing, and we’re all doing what we’re supposed to do. If there’s one thing I know about David Harbour, it’s that he’s an excellent actor.”
