Emergency services are currently responding to a major crash on Indian Ocean Drive, just south of Lancelin.

A St John WA spokesperson said six crews had been deployed to the crash in Breton Bay, and WA Police confirmed one person has received critical injuries.

The crash happened about 7.45am, and Main Roads WA urged drivers to exercise “extreme caution” north of Seabird Road as crews respond.

We’ll bring you more information on this breaking story as it comes to light.

A survey of West Australian parents has revealed almost half believe social media has a “somewhat or extremely negative impact on their lives”, and believe 16 or older is the right age for a child to have an internet-enabled smartphone.

And 88 per cent of the 726 parents surveyed backed the federal government’s social media ban for under-16s.

But when it came to their own social media use, the parents admitted it was a case of “do as I say, not as I do”.

Of the 92 per cent of parents surveyed who used social media, 96 per cent used it every day, and 99 per cent accessed it via a mobile phone.

Western Australia is falling further behind its National Housing Accord target, with new data revealing a 6.3 per cent drop in the number of homes completed during the June quarter.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics data revealed 4814 homes were built across WA in the June quarter, down 6.3 per cent from the previous quarter and 12.9 per cent on the previous 12 months.

And the total number of dwellings completed last financial year fell below 20,000, which opposition housing spokeswoman Sandra Brewer said was an “appalling result” in the middle of a housing crisis.

“A decade ago, WA was completed more than 32,000 homes in a year. Today, despite a much larger population and enormous demand, we are nowhere near that level,” Brewer said.
