Detectives are investigating the gruesome theory that a man was murdered in a prolonged domestic violence attack by his twin brother before his body was found days later buried in the backyard of their home.
The homicide squad are gathering evidence and questioning a 29-year-old man after police were called to an Orelia property on Nye Way about 2.20pm Thurdsay.
Detective A/Superintendent Jessica Securo, of the major crime division, told a press conference that police were first alerted to the situation by another family member who arrived at the home and called police over welfare concerns.
“Police attended the property and located the body of a 29-year-old male in the backyard of the address,” she said.
“Another male who is also 29, and the brother of the deceased, has been taken into police custody.
“I can confirm that there is no ongoing risk to the wider community.”
The West Australian understands the man’s body was found by police with serious fatal injuries buried in the backyard.
The arrested brother is receiving treatment in hospital. No charges have been laid.
Det. A/Supt. Securo said police were investigating if the man’s body was buried for a “number of days” but emphasised the exact timeframe and circumstances of the incident were still under investigation.
“I can confirm there are no firearms that have been seized,” she said.
“We will allege that we have located edged weapons, which police will investigate further and determine if they were the weapons used during the incident.
“As this investigation remains in its early stages, police are investigating this death as a suspected family violence homicide.”

Det A/Supt Securo said officers were investigating if the man was subjected to a prolonged attack.
“During these sort of incidents, police will look at previous involvement with police, previous involvement with other agencies, and what led to the circumstances of this incident occurring.
“This sort of incident has a profound impact on the family, loved ones, and friends of all those involved . . our thoughts are with them, and we ask for the privacy for them as the investigation progresses.”
“An incident such as this is confronting, and health and welfare support services have been made available for attending police.”
Police were observed focusing on the rear of the home, including around an area of upturned soil on Friday.
Officers were also seen peering inside vehicles parked in the driveway of the property including a car with red P plates.
