A paranormal investigator has insisted not all ghosts are “evil”.

Colin Browen – who hosts the Murder In America podcast and The Paranormal Files on YouTube – has declared it’s a common misconception that all hauntings are frightening and revealed he’s encountered plenty of “happy, jovial spirits” who just wanted to have a bit of a “laugh”.

He told the US Mirror: “I’ve investigated dozens of homes and places that were filled with happy, jovial spirits – in fact, one night, we spent the entire night telling jokes to the spirits and watched as they played with our devices and seemingly laughed along with us.”

Colin blames Hollywood horror movies and documentaries for the negative perception of hauntings, adding: “In horror movies and documentaries about the paranormal world, usually hauntings are portrayed as intense, frightening and disturbing; however, in real life, it’s never black and white.

“Although it’s possible you may run into something more on the negative side, and you may not be dealing with Casper, most of the time, the spirits we encounter and interact with seem to be lost souls, in a way – not angry, demonic beings intent on raising hell – simply energies and spiritual entities that we don’t really understand.”

Colin went on to insist most ghosts aren’t interested in hurting humans and often they just want acknowledgement or help.

He added: “[Often they want] be acknowledged … [or] helped with a task or given some form of respect.”

It comes after an interior designer in the US revealed he worked on a haunted house and left the spirits “very happy”.

Property expert John Ryan, from Florida, was given the chance to update historic Bihl Manor, which was built in 1898, in Fremont, Ohio and he filmed the renovation for TV series A Very Haunted Renovation – and the designer has now admitted spending six weeks on the site has changed his views on ghosts and he is now a believer.

Recalling his experiences of working on the project, he told PEOPLE: “It was like a home that you see in a horror movie. There’s just this eerie feeling about it…

“It was straight out of a movieThe first thing that I really noticed was just the shift in temperature.

“It was cold, and you’d walk through these different parts of the home and you can just feel it. I mean, it was wild.”

John admitted he nearly quit the project several times as he battled strange feelings which could be connected to the rumoured haunting but he continued and the team gave the building a complete makeover.

However, they made sure the renovations were sympathetic to the house’s history and John added: “I think we did a great job sticking to the whole Victorian era. We left the spirits very happy
