The Diplomat
Thursday, streaming on Netflix
It’s hard to think of many dramas that feel as prescient as The Diplomat. Over three seasons, the Netflix series has played out in eerie parallel to what’s actually been unfolding on the global stage — it’s made for edge-of-your-seat viewing.
This season is shaping up to be another nailbiter.
Picking up in the immediate aftermath of season three’s shock finale, which saw Kate (Keri Russell) coming to the horrifying conclusion that her husband Hal (Rufus Sewell), now Vice-President of the US, and the President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) have secretly committed an act of aggression against their closest ally, the UK, it takes a look at what happens next.
If you’ve peeped the trailer, you’ll be aware that Kate’s not going to let it slide.
“The two of you together are dangerous — who pumps the brakes when it’s you two in the room?” she asks her husband.
And it’s a good question, one set to be explored as this season gets underway.
The show’s creator Debora Cahn, has big plans for where the show will go next — the events that play out this season are central to what’s about to unfold.
“I grew up in broadcast television, where one season was 22, sometimes 25 episodes, so it feels like we’re just getting started,” she recently told press.
“It doesn’t feel to me like we’re in season four. It feels like we’re in the juicy middle.”
Cahn was the writer and EP for the final two seasons of Homeland, which were two of the show’s best — it will be exciting to see where she takes The Diplomat next.
Dustfall
Sunday, 8.20pm, ABC
This six-part Aussie drama, adapted from Vikki Petraitis’ 2022 novel The Unbelieved, sees Anna Torv playing Detective Tig Pollard, who is investigating the troubling rape of a young woman in a country town she grew up in. Sounds same-same, but put simply, this is extraordinarily affecting television, delving into some deeply uncomfortable territory. Unmissable.
Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger
Streaming now on Disney Plus

This fantastic Oasis doc, which hit cinemas earlier this year, is finally making its way to streaming. And in a bonus for fans, it features never-before-seen footage, plus full performances of favourites like Wonderwall and Half A World Away. Relive this extraordinary reunion . . . from the couch!
The State Of Man
Tuesday, 8pm, ABC

Marc Fennell is taking a deep dive into the manosphere, via this three-part doco series — it makes for compelling viewing. His exploration begins as he sets his “Young Marc” profile across social media — it’s not long before the teen alter-ego is being fed all sorts of troubling rubbish. This is the doco we wish Louis Theroux had made — must-see television.
Crystal Lake
Friday, streaming on Stan

Linda Cardellini was fabulous in DTF St. Louis. She’s back in another buzz-worthy drama, this one a prequel to Friday The 13th. In it, she stars as single mother Pamela Voorhees, whose son has drowned in a lake. Sounding familiar? This is set in 1971, eight years before the events of the movie. If you’re a fan of the flick, you won’t want to miss it.
