A man aged in his 30s has died after he was stabbed in Sydney’s west on Friday night, with a police investigation searching for about a dozen people.

Emergency services were called to Cleeve Close, Mount Druitt, near the Westfield shopping centre and train station, shortly before 9pm on Friday, following reports of an assault.

A man was found suffering stab wounds to his torso. Police and paramedics rendered assistance but he died at the scene.

Superintendent Brendan Gorman from Blacktown Police Area Command said that investigators had yet to formally identify the man.

Detectives are now looking for about a dozen people who were at the scene at the time of the fatal stabbing, which Gorman said involved a “bladed instrument”.

“We are asking all of those people to come forward,” he said.

CCTV shows a man wearing a white hoodie being kicked and pushed by a group of men, then chased down the street and punched as he lay on the roadway.

“[The lead-up to the stabbing] is all part of the investigation,” Gorman said.

Police are now working to determine whether the incident was random or targeted, and are combing through CCTV and mobile-phone vision.

Whether or not the man had organised-crime links is something the investigation will establish, Gorman said.

Asked whether witnesses stopped and rendered aid to the man, Gorman said he could not answer that question.

“It’s a horrendous incident, concerning for police,” he said.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information, CCTV or dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
