William Shatner has revealed his kidney stone was auctioned off for Habitat For Humanity.

The 95-year-old Star Trek legend has recalled how a kidney stone he passed went up for auction in 2006 after being bought by a gambling company in Canada.

He told the Dropping Names with Brent and Jonny podcast: “I have a kidney stone, and the guy takes it out, here it is, a little black pellet. Thank God it’s gone.

“A week later, I get a phone call from a Canadian gambling company who, by law, can’t advertise. So what they do… they find ways of doing it.”

The firm asked to by the kidney stone, and then “auctioned it off for $75,000”.

The money from the auction was combined with funds raised by Shatner and his Boston Legal castmates to buy a house through the Habitat For Humanity non-profit, which is focused on building and improving affordable housing.

He noted that the property in Louisiana has had “a family of five” living there the last time he checked.

Shatner added: “My kidney stone plus $25,000 for raised from the cast. We gave Habitat for Humanity $100,000 to make a home for a family.”

Back in 2006, CBS claimed the online casino had been sold to GoldenPalace.com for $25,000.

Shatner – who was diagnosed with metastatic malignant melanoma, a stage four cancer, in 2023 but given the all clear in 2024 – previously insisted he has a “vibration” and he has never “going to die”.

He told PEOPLE magazine: “‘They said, ‘You got cancer. If you came in later, you would have been dead.’ Yeah, see? That’s my life.

“I think I have a vibration, which is what the universe apparently is — all vibration. This is nothing.

“Even at this point, I don’t believe I’m going to die. I teach myself to be aware of my feeling of what I’m seeing, what my senses are doing. I’m driving a car and I’m smiling about it, or I see a hummingbird in the house and I’m conscious of the way his wings are going. And I’m thinking of my dog and my children… I’m aware of the magic of it all.”

And the sci-fi icon encouraged fans to share his outlook on life, though he knows circumstance doesn’t always make it easy to be optimistic.

He said: “It’s easy for us to say in this lovely home with lots of food and rest and education to say, ‘Make your life meaningful.’

“It’s much more difficult to be poverty-stricken and struggling for every dollar and to wonder how you’re going to get through it.

“I understand that. I’ve been there. But it’s also possible to endure that and be aware of the beauty around you, and the beauty of consciousness that allows you to appreciate a leaf or the universe or a relationship. That’s what’s critically important. No time but now.”
