Drake Bell has blasted SAG-AFTRA after not qualifying for health insurance.

The former Drake and Josh actor took aim at the union and its president Sean Astin, known for his roles in the likes of Lord of the Rings and The Goonies, as he revealed he has fallen short of the threshold.

Taking to his Instagram Story, he shared a screenshot of the SAG-AFTRA health plan website, reading: “You do not qualify for Health Plan coverage at this time.

“Your reported covered earnings from July 2025-June 2026 did not meet minimum eligibility requirements, or you did not qualify other eligibility rules.”

The page revealed that Drake, 40, has earned $17,480.53 in that time, which is $11,452.47 short of the required $28.933 amount.

He wrote: “Do not become an actor. Do not join SAG. You can work for 35 years and they still say [middle finger emoji].

“@SAGAFTRA really though @SeanAstin you’re doing a bang up job. How about stop using actors to run things maybe? They literally just know how to say words in front of a camera.”

Drake rose to fame on Nickelodeon sketch comedy series The Amanda Show from 1999 to 2002, before starring on Drake and Josh between 2004 and 2007.

He has largely focused on his music and voiceover career in recent years, appearing in Robot Chicken in 2021.

His other credits over the last decade include episodes of Ben 10, The Adventures of Kid Danger, and Grandfathered.

Drake is not the only star to call out the restrictions on SAG-AFTRA’s health insurance policy.

Last month, Atypical actor Jack Haven revealed on YouTube that he needed “to make $4,000” by the end of September “in order to qualify for SAG health insurance starting in January”.

Heather Matarazzo, who played Lilly Moscovitz in The Princess Diaries movies, had revealed she faced a similar situation.

After Jack revealed he had found enough work, Heather wrote: “I am literally in the same boat right now. Lots of my fellow actors are. I remember a time when we didn’t have to earn a minimum to qualify for insurance.

“Glad to see that Jack has gotten an offer that will let them to qualify for 2027.”
