Actor Arjun Bijlani issued a statement addressing the controversy surrounding his wife, Neha Swami Bijlani, who was recently seen wearing a T-shirt featuring Urdu text referring to the Prophet. Clarifying that Neha was unaware of the meaning of the writing, Arjun said there was no intention to hurt or offend anyone’s religious sentiments. He also condemned the trolling, abusive comments, and threats directed at his wife.

In his statement, Arjun explained that the T-shirt was gifted to Neha by a fan at a mall in Bangkok. He said neither of them knew what the words on it meant when she wore it.

“Neha was completely unaware of the meaning and significance of the writing on the T-shirt when she wore it. There was absolutely no intention to hurt, disrespect or offend the religious sentiments of any individual or community,” the statement read.

The actor added that he and his family respect all religions and beliefs, and would never knowingly do anything to hurt anyone’s sentiments. He also apologised for the unintended offence and said they would be more careful about gifts they receive in the future.

“We celebrate all the festivals, and we will never hurt anyone’s sentiments in any way. We are sorry for what happened unintentionally, and we will always be careful in future with regard to the gifts received,” the statement added.

While acknowledging that people may have strong feelings about matters of religious significance, Arjun said the online abuse directed at Neha was distressing and unacceptable. He stressed that a situation arising from a lack of awareness should not become a reason to subject someone to harassment or threats.

The actor also urged people to approach the matter with understanding and compassion, asking them to refrain from targeting Neha and her family. He said mutual respect and dialogue were more constructive ways to address the issue than abuse and intimidation.

Arjun concluded by expressing hope that his clarification would help put the controversy into perspective, while requesting that the matter be allowed to settle with dignity and understanding.

Bijlani and his wife Neha drew criticism on social media for wearing a T-shirt featuring the names “Allah, Rasool, Muhammad”. The outfit sparked a debate online, with some users questioning the use of sacred Islamic names on casual clothing. Neha wore the T-shirt while attending the birthday party of actor Kunal Verma and actor Puja Banerjee’s son in Mumbai.
