Ranbir Kapoor had a little surprise for his Telugu-speaking fans at the Hyderabad pre-release event of Ramayana: Rise of a Legend on Monday. The actor, who plays Lord Rama in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming epic, switched to Telugu to thank the audience for their love, earning cheers from the crowd and an enthusiastic reaction from co-star Sai Pallavi.

Ranbir first addressed the gathering in English, thanking his Telugu-speaking fans and promising to work hard to give them a memorable big-screen experience. Then came the moment that got everyone listening a little more closely.

He said, “To all my Telugu-speaking friends, all my brothers and sisters from all over the world. I want to thank you for accepting me and my work. I will promise that I will always work hard so that I can give you all some cinematic experience on the big screen.”

“Hyderbad ku raavadam naaku epudu pratyekame. Mee prema, abhimaanam naaku chala villuvenavi (Coming to Hyderabad is always special for me. Your love and affection are very valuable to me),” he continued.

Clearly aware that he was speaking a language he doesn’t usually address audiences in, he followed it up with a light-hearted, “I hope I have not said anything wrong.” Sai, who plays Sita in the film, appeared delighted as she listened to him. Videos of the exchange have since surfaced online.

The gesture comes as the team gears up for the release of Ramayana: Part 1, which will arrive in cinemas on November 5, coinciding with the Diwali holiday. The film’s second trailer, unveiled in Bengaluru on October 15, offered another glimpse of Ranbir as Rama, Yash as Ravana and Sai as Sita. It also showed Jatayu attempting to stop Ravana.

The film is set for a global spotlight before its theatrical release, with an invite-only 3D world premiere scheduled for October 27 at the David Geffen Theatre inside the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. The 945-seat venue will host Hollywood personalities, international filmmakers and global media representatives. Guests have also been asked to wear traditional Indian attire for the red carpet, giving the occasion an Indian touch.

Produced by Namit Malhotra, the two-part epic is based on Valmiki’s Ramayana. Its music brings together AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer, while the ensemble cast includes Sunny Deol, Arun Govil, Ravi Dubey, Rakul Preet Singh and Lara Dutta, among others.
