A Saudi resident was killed and eight people were injured in an attack on King Fahd International Airport in eastern Saudi Arabia late on Wednesday, news agency Press Trust of India reported.

The airport suffered some damage, the Saudi Civil Aviation Authority said early on Thursday. Global flight-tracking service Flightradar24 said on X that flights were diverted from the airport overnight.

King Fahd International Airport is located in Dammam on the Persian Gulf, near Bahrain and Qatar. It has previously been targeted during a wider series of Houthi missile and projectile attacks on major Saudi airports.

The Iran-backed Houthis did not comment on the latest attack. The Saudi coalition said it had intercepted four drone attacks in the country’s Eastern Region.

The airport attack came after debris from an intercepted drone killed two people and injured two others at an oil field operated by Aramco in south-eastern Saudi Arabia, according to PTI.

Saudi Arabia’s Energy Ministry said the two people killed were Nepali and Filipino nationals. The injured were Pakistani and Indian nationals.

The debris also caused a fire in a contractor’s vehicle at the Shaybah oil field, the ministry said in a statement.

Last month, debris from an intercepted Houthi drone killed a Yemeni resident of Saudi Arabia. It was the first civilian death since the Houthis stepped up attacks targeting Saudi shipping and oil facilities.

Earlier this month, a limited fire broke out in an administrative building at Aramco, one of the world’s largest oil facilities, after an attack in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, the Energy Ministry had said.

The latest attack left one person dead and eight injured at King Fahd International Airport, while recent drone attacks and interceptions have also caused casualties and damage at Saudi oil facilities.
