Mics were broken, files were thrown and councillors came close to a physical altercation as the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) House descended into chaos during a debate on pollution and development funds. The confrontation also saw AAP and Congress councillors clash, while Mayor Pravesh Wahi had to be escorted to safety.

What was supposed to be a discussion on pollution soon descended to chaos as BJP and AAP councillors came face to face, shouting at each other and throwing water.

The dispute quickly escalated, bringing councillors to the brink of a physical fight. AAP councillor Shagufta Zubair even reached the mayor’s chair during the confrontation and tried to break the microphone, videos show.

Amid the chaos, the demand for development funds became another flashpoint, with AAP councillors pressing for a higher allocation.

AAP SEEKS MORE FUNDS FOR COUNCILLORS

Following the Opposition’s demand, Mayor Pravesh Wahi announced that Rs 25 lakh in development funds would be released. He said councillors would receive a total of Rs 2 crore during the current financial year.

The announcement, however, failed to satisfy AAP councillors, who demanded that the amount be increased to Rs 1 crore immediately.

Defending the demand, a livid Shagufta Zubair questioned why councillors were being criticised for seeking money meant for public welfare.

“The mic belongs to the House. Why have you come to fighting? We are asking for funds for the public. Are we doing anything wrong? These funds are meant for the public. Why are we being defamed like this?” she told the media.

CONGRESS-AAP SPAT ADDS TO CHAOS

The tensions in the House were further fuelled by a heated exchange between Congress legislative party leader Nazia Danish and Leader of the Opposition Ankush Narang.

Danish was targeting the AAP in her remarks when Narang accused her of being close to the BJP.

Hitting back, Danish said she was not Shagufta Chaudhary, who would join the BJP. The remark further heightened tensions in the House.

The uproar continued as councillors clashed, with the proceedings marked by chaos over pollution and development funds.
