Hyderabad: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday, October 23, said the “serious” situation on the China border needs a comprehensive and independent report that should be presented before the country and demanded that a special session of Parliament be convened to discuss the situation.
Reacting to comments by ITBP Director General Shatrujeet Kapur that confrontations with Chinese troops continue to take place at several areas along the border in Arunachal Pradesh, Owaisi, in a series of posts on X, attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging there has been a pattern in the Modi government to keep the people in the dark about the real situation on the border.
“No discussion takes place in the Parliament; no questions are allowed. PM Modi doesn’t hold a press conference, and even when he has spoken, as in June 2020, he has claimed that there were no Chinese on Indian territory. That was obviously not factual,” the Hyderabad MP said in a post.
In another post, he said, “The confirmation by the DG ITBP of the situation on the Arunachal border with China is extremely concerning, particularly because of the concerted effort by the @narendramodi government to keep the country in the dark about what has gone on. I have raised this issue even earlier and have not got any answers from the government. Now we know why.”
Need complete clarification
He said after the ITBP chief’s statement, there is a need for a complete clarification on the number of places in Arunachal where the “Chinese troops have intruded, stopped our patrols and citizens and are refusing to leave.”
The AIMIM chief said the country also needs to know for how many months this has gone on and why the government has been friendly with China during this period.
He further asked whether the Narendra Modi government is even capable of defending and securing Indian territory.
“The serious situation on the China border needs a comprehensive and independent report that should be presented before the country. Even a special session of Parliament be convened to discuss the situation and the current government’s policy towards China,” he said.
“The least that this country deserves is the truth, honesty and political accountability, when it comes to such core issues that affect the territorial integrity of India,” Owaisi said.
