A woman was found dead in a sugarcane field in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat days before a court verdict in a dowry case involving her estranged husband, an Army man. Her family has accused the husband, Alishan, and five others of murder, alleging that he called her to meet him through a WhatsApp message before she disappeared.
The victim, Rubina, had been living with her parents for nearly two years after marital disputes. According to her family, she left home three days before her body was found after Alishan asked her to meet him and bring their two-year-old son.

However, Rubina left the child and her phone at her parental home. When she failed to return, her relatives began searching for her and later learnt that a woman’s body had been found in a sugarcane field. They identified it as Rubina’s.
The family suspects that Rubina was poisoned and strangled. Relatives said her body had turned blue and blood was coming from her mouth. The cause of death is yet to be established, pending the post-mortem examination.
The relatives have also alleged that Rubina was asked to delete their WhatsApp messages.
Rubina’s sister, Komal, said the couple had been in contact over the phone for three days before Rubina disappeared. She alleged that Alishan denied being with her when the family tried to reach him.
“He messaged her and called her to meet him. She did not return. Alishan also denied being with her. Then we learnt that her body had been found,” Komal said. She demanded the death penalty for those responsible, saying the family wanted “blood for blood”.
MARRIAGE DISPUTES, DOWRY CASE
Rubina married Alishan around three years ago. Her relatives alleged that he assaulted her during a dispute within months of their marriage. Attempts by the families to reconcile the couple failed, and Rubina returned to her parental home while pregnant.
She had been living there with her son for around two years. The marital dispute eventually led to a dowry-related case in court. Her family said the verdict was scheduled for October 26, days before her body was found.
POLICE INVESTIGATION
Following the complaint from Rubina’s family, police stepped in. They soon recovered Rubina’s body from the sugarcane field. The body was sent for a post-mortem.
A case was subsequently registered, and a probe was launched.
Police are investigating the circumstances of Rubina’s death and the allegations against her husband and the five other accused.
