Tim McGraw has quashed a “rumour” that he performed at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding.
The 59-year-old country singer and his wife Faith Hill – who are parents to Grace, 29, Maggie, 28, and 24-year-old Audrey – were among the guests at the couple’s star-studded nuptials at New York’s Madison Square Garden in July, but Tim has dismissed reports that he teamed up with the bride for a duet during the celebrations.
Speaking on Esquire’s What I’ve Learned podcast, he said: “Well, I didn’t perform with [Taylor] at her wedding.
“I didn’t perform at her wedding. That was a rumour. Surprise! The internet is not always correct.”
Tim praised the Patient Zero hitmaker as a “special person” and he’s proud of his friend’s career.
He said: “Taylor has always been close to our family, our girls. She’s been to our house and hung out with our girls.
“[She’s] one of the most talented people I’ve ever met. What I always go back to with Taylor is, she’s the biggest artist in the world … [and] I think the core reason for that is she is a genius songwriter. I think that’s the biggest thing that maybe gets overlooked sometimes.
“The way that she writes to connect with her audience is such an incredible thing and the way she’s able to span generations with her music.
“You have Swifties who are seven, eight years old who love her because their mom is bringing them to it because they were Swifties when they were 10 years old. I couldn’t be more proud of her.”
Taylor toured with Tim back in 2007, and he recalled how he and Faith spent time talking to her “every night” about her ambitions for her career.
He said: “She’s very smart about wanting to find out about the industry and how to go about things.
“We just felt that she was a special artist and a special person — and we still feel that way. We couldn’t be happier for her to find Travis, who is a cool guy as well.”
Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney previously discussed his performance at Taylor and Travis’ wedding.
The 84-year-old Beatles legend confirmed he performed his group’s 1963 track I Want to Hold Your Hand, but when the bride chose the song, he asked her to make it a duet so she could perform it “to [her] man”.
Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Paul was asked if the song had been Taylor’s suggestion, and he said: “Yeah, it was. And I said, because she was on stage, I said, ‘You should sing along, and you should sing it to your man’.”
Jimmy replied: “Seems like reasonable advice!”
However, the Hey Jude singer didn’t reveal if Taylor took him up on the request.
It was previously revealed Stevie Nicks had also sung at the wedding, while Travis’ brother Jason Kelce previously revealed the groom himself had taken to the stage with his new wife.
