At least six people were killed and dozens of others injured in a series of shootings across nightlife districts in half a dozen US cities over the Halloween weekend, with Dallas reporting the deadliest violence.

Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said investigators were trying to establish whether the shootings on Saturday night, which unfolded over approximately an hour and 15 minutes, were connected.
According to Comeaux, three separate shootings took place, but authorities had not immediately determined what triggered them. Police made some arrests, although the chief did not specify the number of people detained or the charges involved.
“This is a really big scene. It’s spread out,” Comeaux said. “We are interviewing some individuals right now that we have arrested, still trying to figure out exactly how it ties into all the shootings out here.”
The police department had increased its presence in the neighbourhood ahead of the violence. No police officers were injured in the shootings.
SHOOTING NEAR BIRMINGHAM STADIUM LEAVES 1 DEAD, 8 HURT
Separately, one person was killed and eight others wounded in a mass shooting near Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama, on Saturday night, following the annual Magic City Classic football game.
Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett said most spectators and families had left the stadium premises after the game. However, the shooting occurred nearby, along Graymont Avenue, where vendors had set up stalls.
“I am very grateful that more people weren’t injured,” Pickett said.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remained unclear.
Police spokesperson De’Rell Freeman said officers had detained one person and taken them to police headquarters for questioning. Authorities also found and secured multiple weapons.
The Magic City Classic is an annual rivalry between Alabama State and Alabama A&M, two historically Black universities. The contest has been played for more than 100 years and attracts some of the largest crowds for games in their college football division.
Nearly 70,000 fans attended Saturday’s game, which Alabama A&M won 31-28.
The event has a long-standing history, with Alabama State coach Eddie Robinson Jr., a former NFL linebacker and alumnus of the university, proposing the creation of a Hall of Fame dedicated to the game.
SIX SHOT NEAR UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE CAMPUS
In Newark, Delaware, six people were shot late Saturday near the University of Delaware campus, according to Newark Police Lieutenant Greg D’Elia.
Police said all six victims were taken to hospitals for treatment early Sunday. However, no updates on their conditions were available as of Sunday afternoon.
A university spokesperson said the institution would share updates on the investigation online as they became available.
Videos shared on social media showed people running for safety following the shooting. Police said a stretch of Main Street was closed for several hours after the incident.
ONE DEAD, SEVEN INJURED IN ILLINOIS SHOOTING
A shooting early Sunday in Bloomington, Illinois, left a 19-year-old woman dead and another woman in critical condition.
Six other people sustained injuries that were not life-threatening. However, a statement from the Bloomington Police Department and the McLean County Coroner’s Office did not clarify whether those six people had suffered gunshot wounds.
The shooting occurred near the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University. Bloomington is located about 135 miles (217 kilometres) southwest of Chicago.
SIX HOSPITALISED AFTER SHOOTING IN ARKANSAS
In Fayetteville, Arkansas, six people were taken to hospitals with gunshot wounds following a shooting early Sunday.

In Fairfield, California, police described a shooting inside a store at an indoor shopping mall as a targeted attack. The incident killed a 31-year-old woman and injured six others.
The woman’s family members told police that she was pregnant.
