Ollie Robinson hopes there is “plenty more to come” in the second act of his Test career after winning the Bob Willis Trophy as England’s cricketer of the year.

Robinson spent two-and-a-half years out of favour with the selectors before making a triumphant comeback this summer, taking 28 wickets at a remarkable average of just 9.32 on his return against New Zealand and Pakistan.

The 32-year-old is inked in for a major role in this winter’s red-ball programme, which takes in trips to South Africa, Bangladesh and the 150th anniversary Test in Melbourne, and is primed to have his say in next year’s Ashes campaign on home soil.

Despite making just four appearances this year, the scale of Robinson’s impact saw him crowned at Lord’s, claiming the trophy named after former England captain and fellow seam bowler Willis.

“It’s a huge honour to receive this award. After spending such a long time away from the England side, to come back and have the summer I’ve had has been incredibly special,” he said.

“There were certainly some tough moments along the way, which makes receiving recognition like this mean even more. I’ve absolutely loved being back playing for England and hopefully there’s plenty more to come.”

Middlesex seamer Naavya Sharma, currently in the West Indies with England Lions, took the prestigious young cricketer of the year award after a breakout season.

The honour dates back to 1950, with a cast list of former winners featuring greats of the game, including Sir Geoffrey Boycott, Sir Ian Botham, Sir James Anderson, Joe Root and Ben Stokes.

England spinner Tilly Corteen-Coleman, 19, collected the women’s young cricketer of the year prize after earning international debuts in both white-ball formats this summer,.

Kirstie Gordon picked up the women’s cricket award having captained The Blaze to an unprecedented domestic treble while Angus Brown was named England’s disability player of the year.

After firing Warwickshire to the Championship title with a season-high 69 wickets, Ethan Bamber left the home of cricket as county championship player of the year.
